SORTIE 17
16 Feb.

We took off with 500 pounders (sic) for a jet-propelled factory at Regenburg. Capt. Weller flew a manual bomb run because the C-1 was a little bit off. The Germans must have thought we didn't know the place was there. We got no flack until after the bombs hit. I imagine they thought that shooting up flack would reveal the presence of a military objective. This was the best bombing I have seen. After dropping the bombs we turned sharp right and a lot of flack appeared where we would have been.

Our bombs were supposed to fall in the lower left corner of the factory building. The loss of these buildings would put the factory out of production. Our bombs did just that. I don't think we could have placed them better if we brought them there by truck.
