I have a 75g tank that has been set up and running for 6 years. All the livestock has now passed on (finally the last tetras died of old age) and I would like to convert the tank for Malawi haps.
Long story short, a couple years back I had a batch of rainbows that I am convinced had fishTB. I have kept the tank quarantined since then.
I would like to sterilize everything before I put new fish in to wipe any trace of TB. I would like to salvage the filter media (Eheim cannister with sintered pellets) but sterilize it also.
Can I just dump a bunch of potassium permanganate in the water and let it run for a couple of weeks and call it good? Is there a better way?
thanks
