I've set up my tank and am letting it run to get it ready for some tanganyikans but my lace rock has developed this kinda gel like growth on it. I'd say algae, because I've been leaving the tank lights on about 12-14 hours a day with no fish in there to try to get some algae buildup, but it's not colored in any way. It's kinda clear, kinda white. It might be kinda hair like, because it waves with the current, but I can't get that good a look at it. Never really seen anything like it before. Maybe some sort of fungus?

Have you ever heard of anything like this? Is it something to worry about?

I also get wierd algae in my 2 Tanganyikan tanks. My water is very
soft ,and I use a lot of crushed coral, shells and a liquid
additive that contains minerals to furthur harden up the water.
I get a black algae that is hard and it covers rocks and the
glass in area's.I have to scrape pretty hard to remove this stuff.
I also get some hair algae.
In my soft water tanks,I never see that black, hard algae. They may
have at times some regular green algae and hair algae.
There are also bacterial blooms that look like algae.
Antibiotics will destroy it, but will probably destroy the biological
filtration as well(be like using a shotgun to remove a wart).
I keep my lights on a lot-sometimes 14 hours a day.It may contibute to some of the algae problem. The main problem is
the very high phosphates in my water.
I don't like using many chemicals so the bottom line w/ all this babbling is do some decent water changes.
