So, I've been treating my fish tank for a couple of weeks now to get rid of a nasty ich outbreak and secondary infections, and I keep having this weird white slime show up. The first time it happened was in my 45 gallon after I started treating with Maracyn II. The water got extremely cloudy for 2-3 days, and then it cleared up, and there was this weird slime on all the glass and gravel. It is white, and almost hairy, and it comes off really easily. Also, the water smelled "swampy" while this was all occuring. This made me think that it was blue-green algea, just not very blue or green. I vacuumed it all out of the tank with water changes, and my live plants back, and it seems to have gone away.
Now I have 2 fish in a 10 gallon Q/T tank, and the same thing happened. I don't have any filtration on the tank, but I've been doing daily water changes to keep things healthy. After about 24 hours, the water turned murky, and then about 48 hours from when I put the fish in the tank, the white slime settled. The thing is, I'm treating the fish with Maracyn, which is supposed to be the treatment of choice for blue-green algae. Also, the fish seem annoyed by it, like maybe it's settling on them too, and they seem to be eating it.
Any thoughts as to what this is/should I worry?
Thanks!
-Josh
