I have a few questions about my saltwater tank, I hope someone can answer, I recently purchased a green and white urchin and a blood red fire shrimp from neds.

1. The shrimp molted within the first week that he was in the tank, is this a good thing or a bad thing? He seems to be fine to me.

2. The urchin is eating the growth off of the live rock leaving the rock rock white, from where he was eating, is he killing the live rock?

3. I also have a lighting question, I am running 2 18" 15w lights and then a 24" double fixture with one bluish shining bulb and a white bulb. Is this enough light on a 50 gallon corner tank to try to have corals, or is this enough just for the live rock? And also is there any lights that are better quality for a marine tank?

I also forgot to ask, currently there is gravel on the bottom of the saltwater tank, would it better to have sand instead?

THAT'S GOOD, MEANS HE'S GROWING.

GREEN & WHITE URHINS ARE SAID TO BE SAFE FOR CORALS,
BUT THEY SURE EAT ALGAE. IF ALL YOUR NUISANCE ALGAE IS GONE,
YOU MAY WANT TO PUT THE URCHIN IN A SUMP OR A SEPERATE SMALL TANK (A 2 GALLON TANK WITH A POWER FILTER WOULD DO.)HE IS NOT KILLING THE ROCK, BUT HE IS CONSUMING
(OR AT LEAST MOVING) THE PURPLE CORALINE ALGAE.

I ASSUME YOU MEAN TWO 15 watt & TWO 20 watt
....THAT'S ONLY 70 watts, NOT EVEN 1.5 watts per gallon
......it's really not enough
....MOST CORALS SHOULD HAVE 3 - 5 watts PER GALLON

ARE THERE BETTER FIXTURES AVAILABLE FOR A MARINE TANK THAT WILL ALLOW ME TO HAVE CORAL, OR SHOULD I JUST GET HIGHER WATT LIGHT BULBS?

We suggest for a 54 corner tank
CURRRENT 30” SUNPOD 1X150W 14K HQI
$350

this would give you 3 watts per gallon
(practically more because it is a metal halide)

we have several customers with great coral tanks using this light

( this item is not in stock,
order by phone is okay,
we could have it here Wed the 17th,
please let us know any Sunday for next Wednesday arrival )

I looked into this light and found limited information available. It looks like it is what I am looking for, though. Just a couple of questions though, does this light sit right on the glass or do I have to buy the mounting brackets as well. Also from what I have read this is a 24 hour light that simulates night time too, that would be pretty cool. I will probably come down to your store or order it over the phone later this week.

Also from what I have read this is a 24 hour light that simulates night time too. IT HAS EITHER 4 or 8 MOONLIGHTS, WHICH ARE TINY 1 WATT L.E.D.s.

does this light change on its own to night and day light or do I have to do it manually or with timers?

FYI... You probably want to use the mounting brackets so you have more control over the heat produced by the HQI. Usually, metal halides are put over open water, not on a glass cover.
