HI
I'm new to the board, I'm posting to try and help out the retirement center my parents are at. They have a large indoor pool that has had a poplulation explosion of 2 of their tropica fish. I don't know the name of the fish to me it sort of looks like a Kissing Gorami but I know it's not, from some gallery pictures it might be a Parrot Fish. They also have another fish silimiar in shape that has black & white stripes that is also breeding but not to the extent of the white ones.
They currently have about 2+ dozen youngsters with more tiny babies (fry) swimming close to the bottom. A few other older ones look like they might have eggs ready to drop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Not enough information.
Can you post or email a picture?
Where are you located?
Best if I could see the fish.

I was able to get pictures hopefully they will help, I wish they were clearer. They're not in an aquarium but in an indoor pond, so I'm looking down on the fish.

The striped one in the first picture also has babies in the pond but not near as many as the white ones. I can also bring a couple down for you to see.

They are called Convicts.
Nigrofasciatum (greek for black stripes).
A central american cichlid.
In stock I have a marble variety, and also a more colorful relative called Nanoleutis.
You have the original wild striped form
and the white form.
They are an interesting fish
but
as you have already found out
they reproduce too easily to have any real value.
(The small ones usually retail about $1.99.)
I would not be interested.
However, if you call me Monday after 12,
I can give you the phone numbers
of some other dealers who might take them.
(I don't think they'd pay anything 'tho.)
Best of luck,
Ned
