Speaking of Tanganyika, I've been considering setting up a shell dweller tank sometime next year. Not sure I can pull it off, but wondering if you know about the substrates that claim to maintain the higher PH required for these fish. My current tanks seem to run about 7.5. Do you think something like the Eco Complete Chiclid sand would raise the PH enough and keep it there indefiniteley? Would it require replacing after a period of time?
My interest is in the Neolamprologus multifasciatus . Have you carried this fish?

why wait?

Not sure I can pull it off,
of course you can !

7.5 is adequate, 8.0+ is better

I haven't tried the eco complete, but dolomite, crushed coral and dolomite work well

dolomite stops buffering after 6 years or less, crushed coral stops buffering after 8 years or less

My interest is in the Neolamprologus multifasciatus . Have you carried this fish?
we have Similis in stock now , which is almost the same as Multifasciatus but the stripes are slightly wider ... $18 each

Thanks for the info. I'm waiting as I don't want to take on another tank right now. But will be retiring in Feb, so will have all the time in the world after that!
