Hey Ned, I have a pair of Herichthys carpintus that came down with some kind of nasty illness. Its only those 2 fish, the other 8 CA/SA cichlids in the same tank all seem fine. I started treating the tank with t.c. tetracycline a couple days ago but doesn't seem to have helped.
Any idea on what the fish came down with & what should I treat the tank with if tetracycline is not the right medication? I don't want the other fish to come down with this.
Thank,
AJ

wow
wierd

good idea with the rubber gloves !
for them and you

the fish should certainly be isolated

ideally each in their own 5 or 10 gallon tank

tetracycline is a good place to start
possibly along with liquid fungus cure or acrilavin or methyline blue

it is most likely these fish were beateen up by other fish

did you see any fighting?

They all look fine & are acting normal, the festae does have 2 small white spots on him but the tetracycline should clear it up

Ned, my green terror is starting to develop a white hole in his head just like the make texas did, has one other spot that looks like a whitehead.
Should I try some other type of treatment? I did the 4 days of tetracycline like it say on the box & added fungus cure for 5 days. I have e.m. erythromycin here also

... of both the tank water and the source water ...
what town is the city water from?

Woke up yesterday morning & the green terror was laying on the bottom of the tank. The white spots on his head turned into a daily large hole in his head. two 5 day treatments of Maracyn keep him in check during that time, until the day after stopping treatment his head swelled up, turned whitish & scales started curl. that was the night before he died.
