The Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies (NEC) presents its 36th annual convention March 25 - 27 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Cromwell Connecticut. The NEC is a non-profit coordinating body for 20 local and regional Aquarium Societies located in the New England, New York and New Jersey areas. The convention is the largest Tropical Fish event in the Northeast and draws hundreds of hobbyists, breeders, authors and speakers known both Nationally and Internationally. There will be programs, products and livestock available for freshwater, saltwater and aquatic plant interests.

On Friday and Saturday a total of ten speakers will present programs on a variety of subjects. In addition, a William T. Innes show competition will include fish from the top 20 fish breeders of 2010. This is an invitation only show of some very beautiful fish with the winner being selected by convention attendees. On Friday several regional societies will hold meetings. Included are the New England Livebearers Association, the Southern New England Killifish Association and the Aquatic Gardeners Association.

On Sunday a Giant Auction of Fish, Aquatic Plants and Equipment will be held. Hundreds of lots of rare and hard to find to find specimens will be available with a viewing period before the auction. Special for this year will be a Tag Sale of fishkeeping equipment belonging to the late Jim White (Sunday only 10 - 12). All equipment is priced to sell quickly and all proceeds will go to the Jim White Conservation fund. The Auction and Tag Sale is free and open to the public, while the speaker programs require registration.

A large vendor room (also free and open to the public ) will be open for the entire convention and offers a wide range of products related to the aquarium hobby.
