basically
anything they won't eat
and anything that won't harrass them
...the fish they are with should also be heat tolerant
(discus should be kept above 82 degrees F)
Discus can eat amano shrimp
but shrimp like Atyopsis (wood shrimp, fan shrimp) should be okay
...true dwarf crayfish might be okay
but regular crayfish latched onto them after the crays were mature
generally I like Discus to be the biggest fish in their tank
all corydoras and brochis cats would be good
except the few southern Brazil ones such as Aeneus and Barbatus
which need cool water
most small fancy plecos are good
but large Trinidad plecos will gnaw on the sides of the slow smimming discus if the Trinidad plecos are hungry
they go well with cardinal tetras
(until the discus are full grown and can eat the cardinals)
and most small-medium schooling fish...
hatchets, pencilfish, cherry barbs, come to mind
...guppys actually go pretty well
giant danios, silver dollar tetras, and rainbowfish
are all great schooling fish
but are so hyper-active they might freak out the discus
they go well with dwarf cichlids like rams and apistos,
but most larger cichlids are a little too greedy for the sometimes slow and shy discus...
Jurupari eartheaters might work for a while if the eartheaters are small
and the discus are large
...angelfish that are smaller than the discus should be allright
