Hey guys. I bought some Hypselecara Coryphanoides from Uncle Neds Fish Factory about a year and a half ago. Well, just the other day 2 paired up in a 125 with 3 other chocolates (5"-6") and 2 striped midas cichlids (3.5"). I've been doing weekly water changes of 75-80%. Anyways, I have never seen any agression at all come from these chocolates. My pair only showed agression to fish that swam by where the eggs were laid (on a peice of PVC pipe in the middle of the tank). Well, when I saw them there were only maybe 20 eggs. Later that day there were less, they were not fungussed over though. Well, the next day I walked down into my fishroom and the female was dead. I know I have at least 1 more female, but my question is, where did the eggs go? I never saw anyone move or eat them. Now, a week later, I am 100% sure there are no babies. Hopefully you guys can help me and give me some tips for successful breeding in the future.
I am yet to see any agression come from the midas (they are too small). I am feeding the fish in the tank a mixed diet of Thera-A, Cyclop-eeze, Hikari bio-gold and Hikari gold. Occasionally I give them worms (well washed soaked and squeezed out). The tank is about 85 degrees. For filtration I am using 2 aquaclear 500's, a whisper 60, and for additional benefit, 4 airstones. There is no gravel in the tank, only about 6 or 7 peices of large PVC pipe for the fish to hide in.
I look forward to any help you guys can deliver,
Dan
