My fish - in a very sexy mood!
-Sam
Over the course of an average day Satanoperca daemon wear many different patterns and colors. They turn into contrasting jagged zebras when I feed them; they have greenish army camo at night; they are bright with black spots and red fins when swimming aimlessly through the day; And they may call upon all kinds of facial markings to signal to their conspecifics about mood and intention.
However, on rare occations something completely different and supprising happens. Tonight, after feeding the tank, the largest male daemon started acting extra aggressive. As he worked himself up his whole body flushed with deep red and yellow coloration. The fins and face appearing more saturated then ever before. He then lost his usual two black flank spots and his entire upper sides flushed black. A 10" black fish with red, yellow, and blue fins, a vibrant yellow belly, and greeny blue reflective jewel spots covering the flanks - I would argue that Satanoperca daemon is the most stunning south american cichlid period.
