Hello all,
Costumers are just starting to show up to buy replacement fish for the hundreds they lost in recent power outages, so I wanted to put out a pseudo public service announcement. If you have multiple large tanks, valuable fish, or are just very very attached to the fish you have, buy a small portable generator. These generators are available at most large hardware stores and cost a few hundred dollars - in a single multiple day outage you could easily save that much in fish. I grew up in Newton MA and purchased one to ensure I wouldn't loose my stingrays in an outage. I only had to use it once, but it saved six rays from certain death. If you only have a small aquarium, a gas stove and battery operated air pump could also do the trick.
I sincerely hope that everyone out there got their fish through the storm alive, but if not, don't give up on the hobby. We will be happy to help you prepare better for next time.
Best,
-Sam
