I just spoke with Sonoko. As you can imagine, she has been very busy with the baby, and very exhausted.

The baby's name is Mickey (as in Mickey Mantle, not Mickey Mouse, and it's not short for anything - she is just Mickey). They chose it partly because George is a huge Mickey Mantle fan, and partly because Mickey is also a popular name for girls in Japan - the Japanese characters they have chosen to write her name mean "Beautiful Princess."

Everyone is doing well, but George has gone back to work and Sonoko's mother has gone back to Japan, so now Sonoko is on her own for the first time since the baby was born, so she is pretty tired. The baby is very healthy and strong - and big (accordiing to Sonoko she eats like a horse) - and was already holding her head up when she was only a week old. So, all is well and they are happy.
