I recently bought my fishtank about a month ago, and everything has been going well until about a week ago. I have white and blue rocks at the bottom of my tank, and the white rocks are starting to rust. Since then four of my fish have died and some are alive but not looking too healthy. What is going on? Why are they dieing? What do you recomend I do?

That's not rust, it's called diatom algae, it's actually a good thing.
We now know you have nitrate (diatom algae can only exsist with light and nitrate), which means your ammonia has broken down and your tank is probably cycled.
Diatom algae is harmless, if you get a pleco or an Otocinclus cat they will eat the algae.

The first thing you should do is a half water change.
(You should do this twice a month.)
You should probably also get some test kits. The most important tests are pH, ammonia and nitrIte (nitrite with 2 i's, as opposed to nitrAte, which is good to know but nitIte is deadly, nitrAte is not.)
Make sure the new water is 77 degrees F.
If you use city water,
as opposed to your own well water or spring water,
then you should also use dechlorinator.
We sell the brands Novaqua, Aquatan, Amquel, and others
but any brand is fine.
If you live near the store bring down a live but sick fish
and we'll look at it and can maybe tell you more.
We're open noon-8pm Monday thru Saturday,
and 11-6 on Sunday.
We're on Route 109 exactly at the Medway - Millis line.

Also. please read my article at

Most of that information applies to your situation, I think.
