Hello Ned,
I know this is not ideal, but i do need to do this. Current fish tank (1 30 gallon) to be broken down and given away. 40 gallon "temp" tank(2 40 gallon) is now setup and filtering water in basement. When safe, i need to move live rock, clown, tang, and few snails from tank 1 to tank 2. In a few months when room is finished, i will bring up tank #3, a 55 gallon and cycle. Any proven ways to speed cycling? Do you think a move 3 times over few months is too stressful? Thanks.

Stick some of the cultured live rock and some of the substrate in the new tank from an established one, throw in some dirty filter water, and a frozen food cube or something similar to kickstart the ammonia cycle.

*forgot to add, I wouldn't worry too much about the fish as long as the tanks are cycled properly. In the shipping process, fish are moved at a much more rapid pace than this.

I pretty much wouldn't worry
just move the live rock and some of the old water into the new tank

the only thing you must NOT do
is put dry salt into a tank with live animals

let salt mix disolve in a seperate bucket for a minimum of 2 hours

ideal salinity is 1.023 - 1.025
ideal temperature is 75 degrees F.
