What does "Non-tempered glass bottoms" mean? I mean, I understand that the bottoms aren't made of tempered glass, but what are they made of instead and why is that good? |

non-tempered (plate glass?) can be drilled tempered glass (I don't know but I've been told) is stronger than plate at a thinner thickness so for example 1/4" tempered is equal in strength to (possibly) 1/2" plate AGA and Perfecto use alot of tempered because it saves money Tempered has 2 disadvantages: it cannot be drilled and when it breaks it shatters rather than cracks so I prefer a plate tank (hard to find) even tho they are crazy heavy I am not a glass expert this is just stuff I've heard the other nice thing about the new Oceanic tank is the starfire front glass which is clear not green |
