For my 40 gallon cichlid tank, no plants and I am using two 18" 40 watt tubes. It just doesn't seem to be right, i dont know why. Is this the proper light? Also I saw the "lunar light" moon led thing online. Has anyone ever used it and if so would my Multipunctatus Synodontis appreciate it at all.

Who made your light and what color are the bulbs?
AGA ships a "Power Compact" wth 6700K bulbs which are kind of a yellowy color.
You might want to replace them 10000K/actinic.
Which is a nice mix of colors for showing off cichlids.
Bring a bulb by the store.
