Ned,

Is it possible my problems could be an internal parasite?
The fish may have excreted a worm like creature about 3/16 in length and 1/64 in diameter. Amber in color. and moves in erraticly.

Since we spoke I lost a frontosa also. He went down hill in a matter of 12 hours. The last Tropheus doubasi is hanging on by a thread. I suspect he passed the worm. Although he is ill I did see him pass something.

I have managed to capture this little monster in a vial. If anyone would like to see.

Anyone may feel free to field this question. The symptoms are fish begins to spend time at the top then moves to bottom and shows dificultity breathing. After laying on bottom for 12 to 24 hours it dies. when found dead it is very pale. Very little bloating is evident.

I am leaning towards nematode the symptoms seem to fit.

Upon closer examination the "worm" appears to have eyes.

Gross! Are you sure it's not just abnormal feces?

I think you should keep treating with the metronidazole
for now,
what you really need is probably fubendazole or fenbendizole
(spelling?)
I'm going to try to get some mail order right now.

Lifebearer
or other anchor worm medicines couldn't hurt to try.

Ned,

If you could get some it would be great. I will be seeing you soon. The Quote below has the correct spelling. only the levamisole would be effective due to the fish not eating.

For intestinal nematode infections of ornamental fish, several anthelminthics (dewormers) are available. Two effective and commonly used dewormers are fenbendazole and levamisole. Fenbendazole can only be used as a feed additive
