I have been treating for nematodes for a while, but they keep coming back.

Everyone suggests levamisole but I am not sure I can get it here in the US without a prescription. Maybe a farming supply store?

I have tried all sorts of Jungle products and Piperizine...In food and in the water.

Any advice? I have already lost 2 gold rams, one of my favorites--a keyhole, and an angel.

I have successfully treated for camallanus worms (a type of nematode) with levamisole - definitely try to get some!

I buy it at a feed store (I live in rural NH). They sell these big yellow tablets for sheep. I crush the tablets and dose by weight. I have treated the whole tank (a QT tank won't work since they have a substrate-dwelling phase) with no ill effects to plants, fish, or inverts. Seems like pretty safe stuff.

I am sure you could mail order some levamisole from a farm supply place if you cannot find it locally. I tried getting a vet to sell me some but they would not dispense livestock meds for use on fish.

I can look up the dosage (g/gal) for you if you manage to find some.

I have located some nearby at an Agway!

Very cool.

What dose do you recommend. It seems all over the place on the web....

Thanks again!

mmmm....letssee.....
I used the sheep pills, so hopefully what you have has a similar concentration of active ingredient.

1) Dose 10mg/liter (0.038gram/gal) into the water column
This will not harm your filter
2) Leave in for 2 days.
3) Do a massive water change (50-70%) with a good gravel vacuuming to _ up any loose larvae/cysts)
4) Repeat twice more to make sure you get all the generations. This is why they tend to come back - generations still in the substrate stage of development are not affected by the drug, so you need to keep treating over the course of a week (or even two weeks sometimes) to get them all.

good luck! I now automatically treat new rams and angels....the parasite is so common these days.
