I Bought 2 Silver tipped sharks sunday and just yesterday and earlier today they have died because of ich. I guess they have infected all of my other fish in my 55gallon except for my Plec my keyhole, 1 N.Parilus and my gold gourami. these fish listed are now in my 5 1/2 gallon. i dont know what to do with the others but put medication in. Ned should i clean the tank and risk contaminating the clean water or should i keep putting tablets in and pray for the best any help is appreciated

You need to treat the main tank and now the additional tank you have the infected fish in.

I've used the salt and heat method before. I increased my heat to 86 degrees (Supposedly it kills the parasite while it's in the water). I added one tablespoon of salt (non iodized) per 5 gallons of water. Keep the salt in the tank and heat at 86 for 10 days after you see the last spot on the fish go away. The salt can only attack the parasite while it's in the water, not on the fish itself.

Raising the temp in the tank also speeds up the life cycle of the parasite so it shouldn't stay on the fish too long after you get the temp up.
