I have two severums that have been breeding but the eggs kept disappearing. One is a gold female, the other is a Male Red Spotted Severum which I had purchased from Ned a while back when it was about 2". The most recent spawn I had removed the eggs to another tank with a heater and bubbler to see if i could get some fry. Two days later they all turned white, so I am curious if my Male Severum could be infertile or any other possibilities. I think when i purchased him Ned had said something about them being Line Bred and probably other info i dont remember. If there is any other info on this I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks.

here are some pics too!!

Thanks for the response.

Where do the Red Spotted Severums come from? Singapore?
Do you know if anyone in the U.S. breeds them?

Thanks.

LOTS OF STORYS, NONE RELIABLE ENOUGH TO BE WORTH REPEATING

I DON'T THINK SO.

GOOD LUCK.

OH
ALSO FEED SOME FRESH GREENS
ROMAINE LETTUCE, ZUCHINI, GREEN PEAS, CANTELOPE

Nice fish and photos..
Here are some things I might try.Apoligize if anything is obvious to you or redundant.Thats a big tank but contains many fish that could make the male nervous and distracted. It works the other way too, establishing and keeping a bond w/your Severums.
1-Ditto on Ned's posts(obvious)
2-After fish are conditioned,do a safe water change that will not drasticaly effect your P.H. Vacum the gravel well anticipating pits being dug for wigglers etc.
3-Some fish prefer to spawn at different times of the day.I'd try and do what you can for a water change several hours before the tank lights are shut off.Leave room lighting on for several hours after.Give fish privacy.
4-Provide several possible spawning sites.
5-**Make some semi-sheltered spawning sites so the fish(male) are more secure.Use the rear, corner of the tank.Put a large rock(slate) flat on the gravel and have it hidden behind a big, tall piece of driftwood and plants.Or a large flower pot on its side w/a piece of slate at it opening and again something in front of slate for privacy.Large PVC pipe. They are not cave spawners but will feel more secure knowing there is shelter for themselves and fry.
6-Raise temperature up a little to a safe level.
7-Keep reading up on them and try different things.
8-After all this babbling, the male may just be immature.I bet they will produce fry. Good Luck

yeh...
Tom's right
there are pictures in the tank of other fish
...get 'em all out of there except the parents
(the blue dempsey in particular)
except maybe something the adult severums can bully that you don't care if it gets killed

they are worth breeding

Thanks for all the help.

I dont have that much room to move all those fish out of the tank and put somewhere else, and then leaving all of the 180 gallon to just the severums(im sure they woudl love that  ).

What is the smallest size tank that i could just keep the pair of severums in? Would a 40 Gallon Breeder work? Maybe too small.

Sorry to beat a dead horse.I was just looking at something else and saw this again.Forgot to mention......................
Make sure you have at least one spawning site w/ a VERTICAL piece of slate(or thin rock). They are similiar to Angelfish,Discus and Uaru and some like to spawn on a vertical surface.

Goodluck.............Tom
