Hey Ned,

I am moving to a new apartment at the end of the month, and I figured it'd be a good time to switch from gravel to a better substrate for plants. I was wondering what my different options are, what they cost, and what the difference in performance is. I'd want it for my 45g, and maybe 1 or 2 10g tanks as well.

we have eco complete planted substrate on sale now for $22 per bag
20 pound bags
figure about 40 pounds in a 3' x 1' footprint

we have natural gravel $15 for 50 pounds
I suggest the number 0, 1, or 2 zize...
ideally should have laterite about $20 a box added
or maybe flourish tabs

The laterite:
usually you put down 1 inch of gravel
(either bulk natural or Estes coated),
then 1/8 inch of Laterite,
then another 2 inches of gravel,
then gently fill the tank

I can also get Sera plant tank substrate...might bring that in too.
