I'm new to the salwater nanoreef hobby. Biocube 14 has been up and running about 6 months now. I am growing concerned with the bright "purple stuff" spreading all over my live rock and hermit shells. It's flat, not leafy or mossy. It's starting to overrun everything. I could use some help identifying it. What is it? Is it a problem? if so, how do I correct/control/avoid this?

Sorry - don't have the capabilty to post pictures yet. I know folks would just be guessing.

OK - I think I've identified it as coralline algae from articles and pictures I've found. From everything I've read, it's sounds to be good and seems to indicate a healthy tank. However, at what point does it become too much and unhealthy?

no such thing as too much coralline algae

watch out for high temperatures with a bio cube
(or any coral tank)
in the summer
80 is okay
85 is dangerously high for corals
75 is ideal
