I plan on setting up a 20 gallon long shell dweller tank. In hopes of producing fry, I'm looking for filter suggestions. I was thinking a sponge filter along with a Fluval 2 internal filter. What do you think?

well
you just want to be careful that the babies don't get stuck
or get _ into the filter

most breeders use air driven sponge filters
or undergravel filters

the mother cichlid will do a good job of keeping the babys in or near the shell 'tho

So the sponge filter by itself would be adequate filtration for a 20 gallon tank? Are some sponge filters more effective than others? If so I'd appreciate any specific recommendations. Thanks.

well
it won't be an issue
til you actually get baby fish
(maybe not even then)
but the air driven sponge filters we use at the store are Jungle..
we sell them also $10-$14 , 3 sizes

I'd use 2 jungle dirt magnets on a 20 gallon

we have several in stock and
more coming in Friday
