i bought a pair of Notho. korthausae off you a few months ago, and had them in a 55g community tank.

i am now going to be moving them to a dedicated 7g bowfront that i have laying around.

tank is blacked out on 3 sides, will have black gravel, will have some floating plants, probably water sprite.

was wondering what my make up water SHOULD be for optimum breeding/color.

i've gotten mixed info about the korthausae, in that i know most Nothos are alkaline loving fish, but ive seen some people say that the korthausae like 6.5pH...

seeing that GOOD info on killies is hard to come by, i figured i'd ask the source!

also, were the fish i got from you tank raised?

the korthausi I have I got from a local breeder...
the strain I have is I think Mafia Island...
I think the best pH would be 7.2

Hi,
I bred and raised your N. korthausae. I've had very good luck with plain old aged tap water at about a ph of 7. I don't add any salt or other additives, but do water changes at lease once a week with more aged tap. Korthausae are pretty easy to breed if their in good shape. Try to feed them live food if you can especialy live black worms, they seem to go right at it after those. With Notho i've had best results with a 2.5g for 1 pair , a 5.5g for 2 to 3 pair and a 10g for 4 or more pair. You'll need some peat about a half cup for a 2.5g bare bottom tank. The peat seems to bring out their color also. I also put a nice clean Anubias or some Java moss in tank, watch how much you feed them when you try to spawn them, the wastewill fungus the eggs.
After a week of spawning scoop out the peat dry it on some news paper for 5 to 6 hours and store it in a warm spot for 8 to 10 weeks. That's a quick over view.
I hope it helps
Peter
