Ned,

Quick question about Syno Petricolas, not specifically the ones you just sent me. I see some places have two Petricola species listed (including planet catfish), one being a dwarf. I thought all Petricola stayed pretty small- is there really a dwarf species?

Thanks,

Ben

I just picked up 6 myself and was reading up on them.In FAMA,or
one of those magazines,I did read that their was a smaller(4 inch max.) and a larger (6 inch max.) Petricola.
Pretty much everything else I have read states they reach a max.
size of 4 inches.
Probably are 2 types w/ the smaller one being more available.

I agree 8)

Petricola 'Burundi' is supposedly the large 'true' petricola species, maxing out around 5 or 6 inches.

the other petricola are 'dwarf' supposedly.

truth be told though, I have raised both Burundi and others and they all come out pretty much the same at around 4 inches.
maybe in the lake they get bigger....never seen any WC ones to prove that though.

Thanks for the info! That is pretty much what I suspected- I haven't reallt seen or heard of Petricola exceeding 4". I have few juveniles, so I was wondering what to expect. My brother in law has a 4" Petricola that hasn't grown in over a year. Some websites have two species listed, others don't.

I agree with TL, you do post great pics fishmommy!
