I have a few cichlids that have started to congregate around the wet-dry "filter box" in my 90g tank. Anyone see this before? Cause?

Eating normally, all water levels are fine.

Are you referring to the overflow box?

Maybe they are looking for an area with more water movement and thus, oxygen?

Do you lose alot of food to the sump? Maybe they have learned that the food comes to them if they hang out by the overflow.

Other than that... no clue. Can you elaborate?

Abby

Yes - the overflow box.

Not food related (I think) - I lose little food during feeding times - and there are a few cichlids that have caught on to this so they wait near the overflow box at feeding times (as opposed to the gluttons that swarm the feeding area).

I'm guessing that it might be oxygen related, so I'm trying out lowering my temp a little and doing my water changes a little more frequently (was 50% every 2 weeks, trying 30% every week).

Otherwise, the fish is healthy and eating well - no other signs of distress or sickness. Just likes hanging out by the overflow box.

Check for aggression issues. I am guessing that you have a fish that just decided to dominate your tank.

Possibly some of your other cichlids are spawning.

Spend time watching the interactions among all of the fish in your tank

I do have a johanni chismulu, an elongatus, and a maingano that have all gotten a little more territorial and aggressive lately, but they have been in the tank with all the rest for over a year and a half.
