Hello All,

As Ned mentioned in a post in another part of the forum, NEAPS will be setting up a 90 gallon planted tank with all the gadgets, driftwood, rocks, etc. We'll be fielding questions throughout the demonstration and will provide direction on aquascaping techniques from a number of advanced planted tank enthusiasts. If you've ever wanted to see what is involved in putting together a high tech tank, drop by for the setup. We'll be discussing the basics including substrate choice, lighting, injected CO2 supplementation, driftwood and rockscaping, proper plant placement, and aquascaping hints. Come and see the tank get put together from scratch to the final product and get some nice fish and plants to bring home at the same time.

If you'd like more information about the setup and NEAPS, please visit our website at www.ne-aquaticplants.com.

I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces at the setup.

Regards,
Bailin Shaw
President
New England Aquatic Plant Society

Forgot to mention, the setup will occur on March 18th, beginning at 1:00 pm and ending once the tank is set up.

Hope to see you there.

Bailin

Hi Balin (& Ned) ,
Any objection to me cross posting this on the BAS website/forum ( http://bostonaquariumsociety.org/phpBB/index.php ) ?

Lots of folks in the BAS interested in Plants (and lots looking for any excuse to stop by Ned's ! ) - plants are always a huge % of our monthly auctions

Hi Ned

I think this is a GREAT idea!!!

How long do you think the entire pocess will take?
How many people are you expecting to show up and watch?

Hello All,

I was really glad to see such a large turnout for the 90G planted tank setup at Uncle Ned's. It was great to see some faces I've recognized from past AGA convention and get a chance to meet some new faces. Thanks to Huy, Penny, Dennis, Dave, and several other volunteers to for working the cameras and helping with the aquascaping. Also, a big thanks goes out to Karen Randall for dropping by and interacting with our club and the audience and to Rich for bringing a huge bag of clippings for our demo. It was nice to meet you Jane. It's always good to put names to faces! I hope to see you at future meetings as well as the numerous other people I didn't get the opportunity to interact with.

Finally, our club owes Ned from Uncle Ned's Fish Factory huge debt of gratitude. He got our substrate (Eco-Complete), a nice lighting system, and provided us with all the plants, wood, and rocks we needed to get the setup put together.

Regards,
Bailin Shaw

Did anyone take some pictures? Heck Ned, I'll come in and take a few progression pictures as this tank flourishes!

How are those cardnials you put in Ned?

Can aquarium plants say "CHEESE?"

Hi Ned,

Any updates on the progress of this tank? I'd love to know how this tank is doing.

Thanks.

let's see
>The Red Reineke has at least doubled in height & width & gotten super Red
>the large green plant behind that (that one of your club brought)
grows about an inch a week
>the dwarf swords are not growing, but not dying, same with the
Isoestes Octupus (that's kind of shaded by the big fat green thing)
>The glossostigma is amazing, must have quintupled in mass...tends to grow upwards about 3 inches, then fall over and run a new stringer...
very slight yellowing on some of the glossostigma...
I was wondering if we should start adding Iron or just let the
Eco Complete gravel suffice?
>the anubias are not growing fast (no surprise)
twice now 'tho the one in the front has flowered under water (flower lasts about a half week...I think we need an underwater spider or something to complete the process)
> 2 nuisance algaes
One I call "green paint dot" covers the oldest anubias leaves
and also the glass...grows slow... I mostly ignore it
and maybe razor blade the glass once every two weeks...
the other nuisance algae I really haven't seen before...
it's not black beard
best described as "green String"
seems to have gone away in the last couple days (maybe the Ammano shrimp are finally doing their job)
It was amusing to watch the SAE's carefully cleaning the green string algae without consuming it.

The tank's been a big hit...
we've sold at least 2 planted set up's
and lots of plants because of it...
Thanks Again Guys!!!
