I will soon be purchasing a 110 gallon from Uncle Neds. It will be marine, and i wondered if there is a unanimous choice for filter setup. I will go with the wooden stand and canopy, and would like to keep as much out of sight as possible. I loved the simplicity of my Penguin hangons on my smaller tanks, but between the hangon filter and hangon Pskimmer, its not the greatest stuff to look at. Also wonder how to heat this baby. Thanks all.

i suggest a wet/dry filter
in sump skimmer
and if you want an in sump heater

when using the heater in the sump
as opposed to in the tank
you will want to over watt
because the water rushing out of the sump does not heat as easily as the water with a heater in the tank

Thanks Ned, any brands and models you reccomend. This will give me a chance to do my homework. I think the sump goes in the cabinet and the pump is in there? I remember looking underneath the big bow front in your corals room.

we really like the new aga models for being quiet...
but recently a customer complained the lid warped, no leak or anything, but the top of the wet dry didn't fit square after about a month...
we also carry Pro Clear Aquatic Systems (very reliable)
eheim pumps & danner (supreme) pumps

you might just want to use a tank intead of a actual wet/dry filter if it is going to be a reef tank,
if you're doing a fish only
I'd get the wet/dry

Ok, i am looking at the proclear 150 wet/dry, looks like the protein skimmer is built right in? Then i add an inline heater going back to the tank? I assume these must have some kind of safetys so i cant pump out 110 gallons on the floor? How do you define reef and fish only? I would like to have live rock and fish, i have no experience with corals as of yet. Thanks for all your help. The bathroom should be finished with 1-2 months and then i get to spend money on new tank setup ! I am doing that fancy new canopy with the fliptop and stand with the AGA 110X, now i need to finish homework on filtration and heating.

There are many models and options, yeh that's a good one. Then i add an inline heater going back to the tank?
I don't have much experience with in line heaters..I'm leaning toward a NO.

Well, you'll never get hit by a car if you never cross the street...but, basically, no... none of these systems leak.
How do you define reef and fish only?
Fish only is ...well.. fish only...no live rock just filter...
pseudo reef is live rock but no coral...
true reef is rock, fish, and live coral with bright lights for the coral..

I would like to have live rock and fish (that's a pseudo reef)
, i have no experience with corals as of yet.
Thanks for all your help.

It sounds to me for what you want I would go with the Wet Dry...
just don't use the provided bio balls. (sell 'em back to us)
