Hi

I bought a piece of malaysian driftwood and soaked it for 1 month before I placed it in my 30g freshwater tank 1 week ago. I changed the water in the soaking bucket at least every 2 days but more ofter than not every day. I started to notice this past Tuesday that the water in my tank is now tinted a kind of brownish color. Is this common with a piece of malaysian driftwood after the long soaking? How long should it take for the brown tint to go away, if ever? Should I take the piece of driftwood out and do more preparation on it? Any and all ideas welcomed!

John

Thats just tannin leeching out. Its harmless. If you've soaked it for a month and it still releases tannin, then I doubt anymore asoaking will get rid of it.

Its common and after awhile it should disappear!

You can also filter with a good ammount of high grade carbon.
By the way, the color won't bother the fish, just the fish keeper.
