Hi Ned,

What do you use for cichlids with sunken in "bellies" ?

A few of my Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi have slowly but surely developed the sunken in underside that I sometimes see in Rift Lake cichlids.

so far I've tried Parasite Buddies from Jungle (prazi, metro, lavimasole and something else I think), and treated a total of four times - no change (this was a few weeks ago, so if the parasites were gone they would have filled out by now)

I've also tried medicated food - again from Jungle I think, the medicated parasite pellets (prazi and metro I think). Unfortunately, this stuff must taste like crap, since even if I fast the fish first for a few days the spit the food right out.

I've thought of picking up some straight metro and mixing it into some frozen food, but I've seen that fail on the same symptoms for mbuna (applied by folks with a deeper budget for metro than I have)

So at this point - I'm outa ideas and open to suggestions.

Thanks !

Rich

Joe Mullen,
formerly at Paradise Water Gardens, now doing weekends here,
happened to mention a similar problem with Clown Loaches
(I think he read an article in PFK on it)

try a couple slight overdoses of copper sulphate
can't hurt a cichlid anyway
might kill whats in their gut

(I assume they are feeding, but not gaining weight)

if that doesn't work
I have in stock
3 different de-wormer meds
(sposed to be EXTREME stuff)
that you can try

also

what are you feeding?

the most fattening fish foods I know of are
freeze dried tubifex worms
(I usually NEVER feed these to cichlids, bloat possibility)
and
frozen Piscene Enegetics Mysis Shrimp
