About a month ago I purchased two medium sized ($25) Gold Sevrums from you. What appeared as agressive behavior now seems to be a mating pair. I have a couple of questions:
1.) Eggs have been laid on the backside of a lava rock in a 55 gallon tank and both fish seem to be guarding the area and fanning the eggs. Does this actually indicate the pair is a male and female? Or would a female lay eggs w/o a male?

2.) I was under the assumption because I purchased the smaller Sevrums that it would be some time before they were even old enough to breed. I guess like our teenagers this is not the case?

3.) What is the liklihood of success w/ this spawn and how often is it likely to occur? The tank has about a dozen other smaller chiclids.

I have a couple of other questions but will stop by the store.

Or would a female lay eggs w/o a male? A FEMALE CAN LAY EGGS ALONE.

2.) I was under the assumption because I purchased the smaller Sevrums that it would be some time before they were even old enough to breed. I guess like our teenagers this is not the case?
I LIED.
NO, SERIOUSLY, YOU'VE DONE A GREAT JOB RAISING THEM AND THEY MATURED EARLY.

3.) What is the liklihood of success w/ this spawn and how often is it likely to occur? SOMETIMES MONTHLY IF YOU LET THEM.
The tank has about a dozen other smaller chiclids
THIS WILL BE AN ISUE, THE OTHER CICHLDS WILL TRY TO EAT THE FRY. THE PARENTS MAY FREAK AND ATTACK THE OTHER FISH.
IF YOU WANT TO TRY TO RAISE THE BABYS, SET THE PAIR UP IN THEIR OWN TANK. I KNOW I COULD MOVE 60, BUT DON'T TRY TO RAISE 1000, A BIG PAIR COULD PRODUCE THAT MANY EGGS.
