I have two, one in each of my tanks. They were fine at first but the one tripled in size within 2 months and is more aggressive than the cichlids. The other that for some reason hasn't grown is only slightly aggressive. Because of this I'm actually considering taking them out.

Hi,

I've always kept at least a few of these fish for years. The largest two I have now are about 5".They are in a peaceful, community, 29 gal. w/Tetra's,Livebearers and Corys etc.The SAE are the largest fish in the tank. They make sure that they get their share of food but have never harmed anything else. The SAE is one of the few fish I've found that does a decent job eating algae.
For info.,Check out this excellent website:The Krib
Click on Fish and other Animals;then click on Carps and Barbs;next click on algae- eating Carps(sorry-had trouble pasting).
This has excellent pictures and descriptions of the 4 species that may be labeled Siamese/Chinese Algae Eater.
The whole site is very good.
Tom
