New Fish with Chocolate Cichlids

Who plays nicely with whom? Will these breeds share a tank without eating each other? "Dis is da place"

New Fish with Chocolate Cichlids

Postby coltranem » Tue Nov 07, 2006 11:00 am

Hiy,
I am looking on changing my tank setup a bit. I currentl have a 40 gal breeder with (2) chocolate cichlids, (2) Aureum, and (1) pleco peckotlia type.

I was thinking of swapping out the Aureum for some other south american fish. I would love to keep some more cichlids...maybe an eartheater (surinemensis (sp?)) group. Ned...we talked about this the last time I was in. I think you felt the tank might be a little small for that. (right now going up in size is not an option)

Any suggestions?

Mike

well
depends on the size of the chocolates
I have 2" Festivum
I have 1.25" Thoricthys Macnab (new Firemouth)
I have 2" Surinamensis, 4" Surinamensis
2.75" Steindachneri Geophagus
...probably lots of other stuff

Thanks for the response Ned. The chocolates are 6" and 4" respectively. I hear there are some surinemenis that only grow to about 5" (Orange Head Tapajos). Also maybe some schooling fish would be nice...I have plants so silver dolars I think would be out. What other fish could I get to school with the Chocolates that wouldn't become lunch.
