Looking for recomendations of other tangs/community fish that could co-exist with shell dwellers that I hope will spawn. I assume that any/all Calvus will be fine but I wonder how would community fish such as tiger barbs, tin foil barbs, and tri color sharks do??

Please reply with any suggestions. Thanks

well
if the main idea of the tank is to breed and raise babys
only the pair or group of cichlid parents should be in the tank
(a tank as big as a 55 is not needed, a 10 gallon would work for shell dwellers...we have lots in stock by the way)

If you just want to see the activity
then yes
you can put in all kinds of barbs and things with Tanganyikans
(it's just that the other fish are likely to eat the baby cichlids)

a 55 would be awesome for say
2 or 3 groups of Lamprologus
and 2 or 3 groups of schooling fish

Besides Tiger barbs, what other schooling fish (I'm thinking groups of 6 or more) would you suggest? I plan on keeping the PH cichlid friendly.

As far as a group of shell dwellers, I assume you mean a male and two females?

WELL, THE DITHER FISH SPECIES WOULD DEPEND ON THE CICHLID SPECIES...FOR EXAMPLE THE TIGER BARBS WOULD BE OKAY WITH BIGGER TANGANYIKANS, LIKE TRETOCEPHALUS OR LELEUPI...
SOMETHING LIKE WHITE CLOUDS OR BLUE DANIOS WOULD BE BETTER WITH MULTIFASCIATUS.

As far as a group of shell dwellers, I assume you mean a male and two females? WELL, THE MORE THE BETTER, OBVIOUSLY 2 ANYWAY,
BUT IT WOULD BE MORE INTERESTING AND FUN TO HAVE 4 - 8 OF A KIND...
YOU CAN PUT WHATEVER YOU LIKE IN THERE,
IT'S MOSTLY A QUESTION OF FISH EATING EACH OTHER.
