We were in last weekend and picked up 3 of the red crystal shrimp for a 5 gallon shrimp tank. This tank has 5 baby endlers in it as well and has been setup for 3 weeks using water from another tank to help cycle it thru.

The shrimp have been very active, they were pale when we got them home and brightened up the next day, likely stress of change. Yesterday they were bopping all around the tank, eating climbing on everything, this afternoon we come home all 3 are dead. We did a 1/2 gallon water change 2 days ago.

Anyone have any ideas on what might have happened?

thanks,
Marcy

... could have been metals in the water

or metals in the food

(copper, in particular)

Do you use a water conditioner?

What brand of food do you use?
Read the fine print of the ingredients.

We use Prime as a water conditioner, tetra flakes, shrimp pellets and some AquaSelect tubifex worms.

The bottom is sand and we had used coppersafe in an old tank with that sand. I washed the Sand out in very hot water for a long time mixing it continualy to let things flow through.

the foods and conditioners we are using have not changed and we had a couple Amano's in the other tank for atleast a year.

We use Prime as a water conditioner,
as long as Prime says it detoxifies metals should be fine...
also Prime is very strong, so use strictly according to directions

tetra flakes, shrimp pellets and some AquaSelect tubifex worms.
as long as there is no copper sulphate in the shrimp pellets you should be okay

I'd still be scared but I don't know

might want to get a metal adsorbing filter pad such as Poly bio Marine poly filter
