Hi, I have 10 crystal red shrimps in my tank. Information online seems to indicate that they scavenge for dirt and algae throughout the tank. I have an assortment of weitzmani tetras and red dwarf rasboras ( Thanks Dan and Ned all of them are doing fine, none of my tetras actually died as I had feared, they were just hiding). Question is, is the waste produced by the fish with a little uneaten fish food enough for the shrimp or should I buy algae pellets for the shrimp? My main concern is overfeeding. Any advice would be appreciated. :D

tank looks good...

most important thing
about
shrimp food
is that
it must have NO copper

Omega Sea foods always has no copper in it...
I have had no problems with Tetra brand foods
and no problem with Sera brand foods...
...in fact Sera has a food designed for shrimps,,,
you can also get
special crystal red shrimp food from Japan

New Life Spectrum
Kent
and many other brands of small pellet food
may
have copper as an ingredient
(read the labels before feeding to shrimp, or reef tanks)

also of course
don't put copper fish medicine in a tank that has shrimp

one of the best foods for shrimp is SHRIMP
frozen baby brine shrimp in particular

Thanks for the food suggestions. But can the shrimp survive on fish waste and algae alone and maybe a few bits of uneaten fish food that sink into the substrate?

sure
just depends on how many shrimps you have

they don't need much to survive
but to thrive and breed they like to eat often
