Ned,

My corys were about 2 days from being done with quarantine when 2 of them suddenly got sick. The one I managed to photgraph has some weird white growth on its side, and the other has some spiderweb-like thing going on on it's forehead (I think it's the same thing, but it doesn't look raised from the surface) Any idea what this is? It looks to be sort of soft in texture.

I added salt to the tank, it's at about 1.3 teaspoons/gallon right now. I also have 2 of the gold ring loaches still in the same quarantine tank. Should I add more salt? Should I separate out the sick fish? Is this contagious?

Thanks,
Josh

no
I don't think it's contagious

what I would probably do is

put the 2 viet gold ring loaches in a different tank
(Sewellia don't appear to be fussy
just have at least 2 working filters or airstones
and offer them spirulina discs or veggie rounds occasionally)

take the corys out and put in a seperate container
while re-doing the small quarantine tank

change half or more of the water
take out all of the gravel
(I would always have a quarantine tank with no gravel
just because it is easier to clean)
use 2 teaspoons of salt per gallon of water
along with another medication
...tetracycline would be a good choice...
we also have erythromycin and oxylinic acid...
run the filter but without carbon of course...
medication works best with a large water change and a re-dose every day or two
in this particular case a dye medication might be helpful also
...such as methylene blue or acriflavine (they are messy and stain 'tho)
do NOT use formaldyhyde

if the corys are feeding
garlic may be useful and won't be harmful...
we sell garlic extreme drops you can add to food
or garlic flake and pellets by Omega Sea
