Post subject: What type of barrel? Posted: Sat Dec 08, 2007 6:05 pm

Can someone please tell me what type of barrel can safely be used for mixing water before adding it to the aquarium? Some plastic trash cans smell like plastic - that doesn't seem like it could be a good thing. I know there are barrels sold as food-safe and drinking water-safe. Is that what's needed...

From Ned: if you write to them I think you'll get a positive response From Current, not quite the positive response I was hoping for: We have put quite a bit of time and money into the development of the ballasts we are using. The main reasons for failure are heat and arcing in the socket region of ...

Thanks for the info... Before posting, I had sent off an email to Current telling them the fixture is 18 months old and asking what can be used as a replacement ballast. So I'll see what they say / do. I'll try the silicone grease. Now all I have to do is find it. Ned, any idea if this stuff is it: ...

I've got a Current Satellite 1x96W fixture (approx 18 months old) where the light flickers for hours before it burns steady. I replaced the bulb, so I know that's not the problem. I assume it needs a new ballast. Is there anything else that might be wrong (other than the ballast)? Here's a picture o...

Ok, I'm confused.

With my 3/16" thick glass, it sounded like I need the "thicker stuff". Is that correct?

If so, I am in need of 2 pieces, each 4 feet in length. If you only have 2 feet in stock, can you order more (in black)?

Thanks

Hi Ned,

Were you able to order the hinges?

I called Tues and spoke with, I think, Dan. My glass is 3/16" thick.

Thanks

Hi Ned, Do you have, or can you get hinges for a 48" glass top? I'm speaking of the black rubber type hinge, where the glass slides (with great difficulty) into channels on the hinge. I have 3/16" glass. I think this pic show the correct hinge: http://a1272.g.akamai.net/7/1272/1121/2005101...

For a couple of years I had a pair of angels routinely spawning in a 55 gal tank with a variety of other fish. I allowed the pair to protect the spawn until they were just free swimming. Then I siphoned out all the fry I could get and placed them into a 10 gal tank with water from the 55 - bare bott...

The outage happened and all is well. I ended up cleaning the canister filters the day before the outage and left them running. I didn't open them up at the time of the outage on the notion that I'd killed most of the bacteria already during the cleaning and not much would have re-populated them in a...

It's in Worcester. I have no idea what they're actually doing. The FAQs they sent were less than helpful. Ex: Why is this outage happening? The electrical distribution system in your area is in need of repair. If we do not make these repairs, there is a risk that your area will experience an unplann...

Hi Ned, National Grid informed me that they have scheduled a 7 hour power outage to "make improvements to our electrical distribution system". Given for a change I know it's coming, and more importantly it won't be just a few mins, do I need to be concerned? Have any words of wisdom to sha...

Although the desired result is as appealing to me as I'm sure it is to most people, apparently there are some shortcomings to the approach. Also "Phillip Hollsworth" doesn't seem to exist. You can take a look at the following: http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/exxon.html http://www.s...

Looks like you get your water from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA). These might help:

Ned, they both probably come with a half white/half blue bulb but you can swap it out for whatever color bulb you like for freshwater plants I like the half 6700 / half 10000K bulbs (dual daylight) we can put in whatever bulb you wish I'd like the color bulb you recommended: 6700/10000K. Do you know...
