this thing's like a car accident
I know it's wrong but I can't help staring

it reminds me of the Conan O'Brian bit
"What if they mated?"

You have a very unusual fish there it is almost certainly a cross breed but a cross breed of what X what? the mouth looks disturbingly like a Frontosa's. but the body looks like a Mbuna I never would never have thought they could cross before this animal in your picture the wierdest cross I ever saw...

best thing to do is bring a sample of the algae down to the store
and I'll look at it.

There is one kind of algae I call
"Green paint dot"
that nothing eats until you scrape it off for them.

Fortunately it grows very slowly.

We've been lucky here at Uncle Ned's. We haven't seen the koi virus for several years. It is a really gory disease, and it is contagious, looks like your fish are rotting to pieces. The best treatment seems to be very warm water. I found a very good article here: http://www.nawgs.com/news/article_de...

your pH sould be 7.4 - 8.6
temperature 78 - 80 degrees F.
ammonia should be 0
nitrite should be 0
nitrate should be between 0 and 100 parts per million
if you're pH is not staying high
the best thing to do is add coral base rock
or dolomite gravel
maybe a half pound per gallon

You can try your betta with guppys

but keep your eye on him

sometimes a male betta thinks the big guppy fins are another male betta and he'll attack the guppy

I'd suggest a CURRENT company 30” SATELLITE 65W PC STRIP. That's if you have a 29 gallon tank or a 37 gallon tank. Uncle Ned's can order this for you ... it would cost $85. If you want one let me know any Sunday by 5 pm and it can be here the next Wednesday afternoon. or CORALLIFE company 30” F/W A...
