Oh shoot I should read closer when you say cichlid tank are they south american or African cichlids? big or small cichlids? Black beard algae is usually never seen in cichlid tanks 2 reasons: cichlids eat algae (at least Malawi cichlids) & black beard algae hates hard water (which is usually the...

to catch 'em you can just wait 'til they crawl out at night then net 'em or you can take a tube or pipe put some food in there then pull the tube they are useful to keep the tank clean but too many big ones can be a nuisance you can also put in an arrow crab (1 or 2 in stock now) or a 6 line wrasse ...

The gas bubbles in the water sound suspect.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my tank that I can't seem to solve. When I first set up my tank almost a year ago I used tap water without knowing it had copper in it. I have tried unsuccessfully to get rid of it. I tried using some poly filter pad and I do regular water changes (not with tap water) a...

What are the symptoms of malawi bloat (beside loss of appetite)? Anything visible? They actually "bloat" like a ballon. Is it contagious? Well, it's an indication that something is wrong... yes...not all the cichlids in the tank will necesarily get bloat, but something needs fixing. How qu...

I have a well established 20 gal tank with about 7 tropical fish. I currently have some stoney gravel that I am wanting to replace. I know there are crucial bacterial colonies on the gravel, so I guess my question is is there some way of replacing hte gravel and not harming the fish? Any help would...

if you already had live live rock
and
live live sand
it wouldn't have been an issue
if everything's cycled
just put stuff in

also it's always a good precaution
to use a chemical filter
in case of copper contamination

er

whatever you do
don't put any expensive fish or inverts in there

keep testing for ammonia and nitrite

I think your going to need a complete water change

the detritus IS the good bacteria (or was)

(you know,
if you just buy eveything from us...
you don't really have these problems)
