arrow crab. I think Ned will be getting those in tomorrow (keeping fingers crossed).
They grab them out of the rocks and eat them like spaghetti.

yes, leafy = bad in my book. I would recommend pulling the rock and physically removing the hair algae. However, if there is even a little bit left it will return. I would recommend getting a bristle toothed Tang. They do an unbelievable job on eating the algae. They are also a community fish that w...

The first links you posted look like it is just some red algae. Not the bad red slime algae, but in my experience with that red algae, it is a bit invasive, I would scrape it off and toss it. The other link to the blue bubble thing. It looks like it is a chiton of sorts. I find them often in tanks. ...

flow, temp, and salinity. As long as those are good, the fish will be fine.

way back when i was a wee tad i got a 55 gallon tank for Cichlids. That tank was good for about 6 months until I realized I needed a bigger tank. If you have the room I would strongly recommend going with the 75. it is only 6 inches wider and the length is the same.

Just my 2 cents.....

I think you are worrying too much about everything. In my experience, the more you test and try to adjust things the worse off you are. This is what i would do..... Use half doses of all the chemicals weekly. Don't try to do any water tests right after adding the chemicals. your tests won't give you...

wait until you REALLY get into the hobby and upgrade your tank. It only gets better from here. The top hinge is a piece that allows the plexi to slip into on both sides holding it together, but allowing you to flip the top open. You can also purchase the handle that sticks to the front to lift it. W...

I would say with the number of cut outs you are planning, that will be enough to allow for air. The hinged door is easy. Just cut the first quarter of the top in a strsaight line and buy a piece of top hinge from ned to fit the width of glass you are using.

Just a gallon of freshwater. Once you mix in the Kalk you need to let it settle. The chlorine will evaporate from the water once it is exposed to the air over night. No need to salt the water. adding such small amounts won't do a thing to your salinity given evaporation from the tank anyways. Just m...

It's not the bulbs, but the type of light you have. A standard floiurescent fixture isn't really Ideal. You should definitely take a trip to Ned's, but look at the power compact lighting. They are 96 watt bulbs, not 40W. You get a double Actinic bulb and a daylight bulb. Your wife won't even see tha...

For what I do, the other barrels are more rigid. I transport water and use them for many different things with the ponds and aquariums I service. The Rubbermaid are fine for home use, but they just don't hold up for me.
