Thanks for the reply! I don't have the space for a 20g right now. I do have a cycled but unoccupied 10g, but I'm guessing it's not big enough for 2 angels? The angelfish are still relatively small, I'd say without fins they're ~1.5-1.75 inches. I'm mostly just afraid of them killing their tankmates....

Hi, I have a pair of angelfish in my 45g community tank who are acting as if they are about to spawn. They spawned about a month ago right before I left on vacation, but I moved the eggs and none of them made it. I'd prefer to raise the fry in my 45g community tank, where the parents are now. Will t...

I have two separate issues/questions: 1) I have a pair of pearl (leeri) gouramis, and the male is very aggressive towards the female. Recently he's taken a couple scales off of her, and I'm worried she's going to get stressed out and sick. I was thinking of getting another female to try and spread o...

Sorry for the delay, I lent my test kit to a friend. Ph = 7 Ammonia and Nitrite = 0 The thermometer is correct (I double checked) I have one that's still alive, but seems to have some fin rot and/or septicemia that's starting. I dosed with Melafix. There are also 2 SAEs I got the same day in the tan...

It's a standard 10, I don't think that's the problem, but thanks for the input.

Ned, I got 4 panda corys from you two and a half weeks ago, and I've had them in quarantine since. Today I found 1 dead and 2 on their way out. I don't see any signs of sickness (spots and whatnot), just fish laying listlessly on the bottom or swimming upside down and struggling. The tank is fully c...

Ned, I was wondering if you would be interested in a 5-6" Amphilophus festae, and a ~3" blood parrot for trade in. The blood parrot has suffered some aggression from the festae, but the festae is in good shape. I also have probably 10-15 Valisnera that I'll probably prune out of my tank so...

I have called the airlines and they told me that no, you can not carry-on fish any more. I would call and see if they can manually inspect the fish instead of X-raying them; the x-rays used are pretty powerful and could potentially harm the fish. If you can't talk them out of it, I would recommend m...

I'm going to need to think about that. If I decide against the UV, I may just take all of the plants and shrimp out of the tank while I treat it with a tougher medication. I had three questions: 1) In the meantime, I thought I might add a small amount of salt to the water. How much salt is generally...

Ned,

What's the cheapest I could get away with for a UV sterilizer? I'm a poor college student, and I'm afraid it's well outside my budget. If it's possible to get the parts cheaply, I don't mind making it myself. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Interesting... I fertilize with liquid Flourish Comprehensive Supplement (the one with trace elements) at the recommended dose once a week, but most recently the symptoms reappeared on day 6 of the cycle (6 days since I last fertilized). I also have Flourish Tabs in the gravel, but I don't have very...

So, after the two weeks I added the fish back, and sure enough they're scraping themselves on the plants again. I was wondering if there are any parasite medications that I can use with both live plants and shrimp, and if not, are there any that I can use with either one? I could remove the shrimp a...

Thanks for the advice, Ned. One more question: Will the parasite tabs hurt my shrimp? I left them in the 45, assuming they wouldn't be harmed by the parasite. Do you have any experience with maracide and shrimp? Thats the medication I currently have, and the instructions are somewhat dubious as to i...

I've had a problem with an unknown parasite in my 45g tank for several months now. I will treat the fish, they get better for a few weeks, an then they start flashing on the plants again. I figured that the parasite was living deep in the gravel and was thus unaffected by the medication, and so to a...

Ned,

I have a 10 gallon tank whose inhabitants I have decided to swap for smaller, more friendly fish. I was wondering if you were interested in a cutter's cichlid, a rainbow shark, and 2 rosy barbs for trade in/donation.

Thanks, and sorry if this post is in the wrong section,
-Josh
