I picked up a 45 gallon tank that a neighbor no longer wanted. I am trying to decide what type of set up that I would like. I am considering discus fish. I live in Medfield, and have hard alkaline water. I would rather not get into trying to change the water chemistry. I wanted to get your opinion o...

I was thinking of adding an Electric Yellow Lab to my 75 gal community tank. It currently houses a blood red parrot, 3 large angel fish, 5 large Boesemani Rainbows that run the tank, a gold gourami, a brislte nose pleco and 1 small Lamprologous shell dweller. It has artificial plants and no rocks. D...

Dear Ned, I am thinking about using one of the tanks that I have hanging around to start a small cichlid tank. I have 2 questions. Which tank would be better the 20 H or a 37 gal hex. I know that the 20 has a larger surface area, but did not know if that off set the extra gallons with the hex. Also,...

Thank you for the reply. The haze is white, and I have 2 40 watt bulbs. Would the the live plants help with the white haze, and do I have enough lighting for them. Thanks again.

Dear Uncle Ned, I have a 75 gal freshwater tank that has been set up for about 2 months. The water has a slight haze to it. The lights are on for about 9 hours/day. I do a 20% water change weekly, and do not over feed. I have a Magnum 350 for filtration plus a power head and airstone for circulation...

I guess you are saying that there is no quick way to get the tank clean.
Can the biowheels be reused or do I need to replace them?

Also, should I let the tank go through a cycle before adding the fish from my existing tank?
thanks

Hi all, Long time reader, first time poster. I am in the process of breaking down my 75 gal saltwater tank and converting it to freshwater. I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on how best to clean the tank. I also have 50 lbs of live rock that needs a home. Will it keep in a bucket of salt...
