I guess they still make those Perfecto river tank kits- but they seem way too expensive. Here is what it looks like, seems like you could do the same just attaching acrylic with silicone. http://www.rivertank.com/ The river sections look good, but I think the background looks kinda cheesy. I wonder ...

A river tank sounds fun. These guys would certainly make good use. Difficult to do?

After hearing about their natural habitat, it does makes snes. Very interesting.

As to my initial question- are they picky about being in pairs? I don't know which sex kicked it.

These gudgeon's are insane. I just heard a splash, thought the other had leaped out, after a few minutes of searching I looked in the filter and the remaining one had jumped into it. It is the smallest hang on back I could find- cascade I think. I turned it off for now- they seem to be atracted to t...

Hey Ned, I came in this morning to find one of the Goo-Obo's on my desk a good 2' from the tank. It is covered, except for the area were the filter hangs. Are these typically jumpers? I want to replace it, but I don't know which sex I lost. Do they get along ok, if there is more than just a pair? I ...

I like Otocinclus for planted tanks- they generally won't mess with your plants , stay small, and love to eat algae. http://www.otocinclus.com I would guess Ned will ask how long you are leaving the lights on, and yeah, an abundance of CO2 and nutrients can lead to an algae bloom. You may be giving ...

Thanks, Ned. I thought Cherry Barbs were prettty peaceful, but I couldn't think of anything in there that would be attacking the large Boesmani, and that was the only thing I saw take a nip. I was thinking maybe they sensed it is sick or something. It is looking a little pale, but no other signs bes...

Hi Ned, My brother-in-law has a 29 gallon tank with a few Bosemani Rainbows, two small cherry barbs, some dwarf gouramis, and australian rainbows. There is one large bosemani male that I noticed had some bites on the top of his body. He is significantly bigger than any other fish in there. I was ove...

You should have no problem. I have kept Yellow Labs with Bosemani and shell dwellers without any problems. They are pretty mild cichlids, especially alone.

Thanks for the info! That is pretty much what I suspected- I haven't reallt seen or heard of Petricola exceeding 4". I have few juveniles, so I was wondering what to expect. My brother in law has a 4" Petricola that hasn't grown in over a year. Some websites have two species listed, others...

Ned,

Quick question about Syno Petricolas, not specifically the ones you just sent me. I see some places have two Petricola species listed (including planet catfish), one being a dwarf. I thought all Petricola stayed pretty small- is there really a dwarf species?

Thanks,

Ben

You're right, there is a foam pre-filter you are supposed to use at first: The foam prefitler is only to be used during the first 6-8 weeks. Afterward, the bacteria strains in the filter media take over the biological and mechanical filtration. The foam prefilter should then be removed. Sounds like ...

Thanks Ned, sounds great! Since this solely a biological filter, do I need supplemental mechanical filtration?
