If you grab the lower lip
then hold the gill flaps down
the mouth will usually stay open while you work
( same as when taking eggs or fry from a holding female)...
I'd suggest good quality tweezers or very small needle nose pliers

whatever you put your tank on
you should be careful to avoid a twist
you want the stand to be very FLAT

correct no plywood required
unless you find it useful
for some other purpose ...
like...
raising the height
or
making it easier to slide the tank
off or onto
the stand

glass aquariums are designed to sit in their moldings
the moldings sit on any surface
(iron stand, pine stand, any solid table top)
as long as the whole perimeter is supported...
what size tank are you talking about?
why do you ask...
are you making your own home-made tank?

quick filters

I love 'em alot
but yes
the carts do clog quickly
they also don't stand up to alot of rinsing

to make it last longer, try carving a big sponge
...like a aquaclear 110 (old name 500) sponge
to shape

I found arowanas to be really cool....however, I've heard they're very aggressive. When they get old, they are very greedy for food...when they are young...they are kind of shy and wimpy. I have a 55 gallon tank, with some community fish and some plecos. If I were to get an arowana, do I have to fee...

if they graze all day they'll be happy as a tropheus in Tanganyika!

there are basically 2 styles... drop-in & in-line drop-in requires fewer skills on the part of the user both require an additional water pump basically you pump water through the unit and the machine chills the water the heat that the chiller _ out of the water is also an issue because the heat ...

someone mentioned the co2 thing... no no please... we need to add o2... you may be refering to air injection with a power head....as opposed to co2 injection with a power head.... this might help... hot water is very bad at holding dissolved oxygen, so...yes...any form of extra aeration is welcome.....
