I'll check back in August. I'm leaning toward the gold head compressiceps...what's the chance of getting a confirmed trio? My second choice would be a trio of black calvus. As far as breeding...would you recommend one over the other?

I'm interested in a breeding group of black calvus or red fin, gold head compressiceps for my 55g. Which would you recommend and/or be able to get? Thanks.

Looking for suggestions/recommendations on what to feed my 2+" frontosas. I hear good things about New Life Spectrum Cichlid formula....also is there any truth to the theory that blood worms, frozen or freeze dried, are actually bad for frontosa? I look forward to any and all response. Thanks.

So the sponge filter by itself would be adequate filtration for a 20 gallon tank? Are some sponge filters more effective than others? If so I'd appreciate any specific recommendations. Thanks.

I plan on setting up a 20 gallon long shell dweller tank. In hopes of producing fry, I'm looking for filter suggestions. I was thinking a sponge filter along with a Fluval 2 internal filter. What do you think?

I plan on re-using crushed coral substrate that has been in storage for a couple of years. In an attempt to whiten/remove the yellow tinge, I'm wondering if soaking the crushed coral in bleach is a good idea? I assume if I rinse thoroughly it should not be a problem. I just need confirmation before ...

Besides Tiger barbs, what other schooling fish (I'm thinking groups of 6 or more) would you suggest? I plan on keeping the PH cichlid friendly.

As far as a group of shell dwellers, I assume you mean a male and two females?

Looking for recomendations of other tangs/community fish that could co-exist with shell dwellers that I hope will spawn. I assume that any/all Calvus will be fine but I wonder how would community fish such as tiger barbs, tin foil barbs, and tri color sharks do?? Please reply with any suggestions. T...

Thanks for the response. I understand the plant selection would be limited with crushed coral but how would community fish do with a higher PH?

How many pounds of Natural gravel are we talking about for $30?

Thanks again.

I plan on setting up a 55gal community tank with the possibility of adding live plants. If I use the crushed coral substrate and Texas holey stone from a previous cichlid setup, will it boost the ph above what I would need it to be? If so, what would you recommend for an inexpensive natural looking ...

Thanks all for the feedback. Next question...what is the best way to get it started? I understand java moss works well with driftwood, how do I safely attach it to the driftwood, or anything else, in hopes that it takes off on it own. Thanks again for the feedback.

I plan on leaving my 90gal african cichlid tank unattended for eight days. I was once told that cichlids can go without food for long periods of time without a problem. I've consider an automatic fish feeder but my fear is that a malfunction may do more harm then good. Looking for suggestions and fi...
