House is of new construction and the tank is against an interior wall. I keep a "cool" house when I am at home (62). Keeping the heat at no more than 8-10 degrees below the target temp (56 degrees) for a period of 6+ hours saves money. A larger air temperature difference wouldn't be cost e...

My 300 watt Fluval E while set to 77 degrees is only heating my 55 gallon tank to 70.5. The room is typically between when not home and 62 when occupied. Dual heaters?

Thank you for the info. I think I'm going to get a second thermometer other than the stick on type I currently have. Seems to approximate.

I have a 55 gallon tank and last night noticed my Malawi's were sluggish. Luckily this was a scheduled water change night. The heater (Marineland Visitherm 300watt) had failed. The light was on, but the water was 60 degrees (pretty sure it failed the day before). I shot down to Petco and picked up a...

Hello, I'm new to the hobby and before I set up my tank I bout a large canister of food (http://www.petsolutions.com/C/Herbivore-Fish-Diets/I/Ocean-Nutrition-Cichlid-Vegi-Formula-Flake.aspx). I'm just about out of the food I bought at Neds. Is the food I listed above ok for my fish? Just don't want ...

Yeah, there is no way to adapt this faucet. It's a pull out Kohler faucet with spray head all in one. Back to the drawing board.

Hi Ned,
It's a 55 gallon. Taking water out and vacuuming isn't the issue it's returning the water back. Thanks for any input you have.

Hello, Any recommendations besides using smaller buckets to refill tank or the use of a faucet attachment. I don't feel comfortable lifting and pouring 5 gallon buckets back and my kitchen sink has a Kohler spray faucet and can't be adapted. Looking for a way to pump the water from the bucket up int...
