What canister filter do you recommend for a 30 gallon and does the canister have to be below the tank or can it be placed in a cabinet above the tank?

I currently have a 30 gallon saltwater reef tank that i am thinking of converting to fresh water planted tank. What new equipment would i have to purchase and what could i reuse. I have 4 bulb t-5 fixture on the tank now. I assume that i would need to purchase a filter and new substrate. Can you sug...
